Joseph H. Melrose, Jr. is the new U.S. Ambassador to Sierra Leone.

Ambassador Melrose entered the Foreign Service in 1969. He has had a long and varied Foreign Service career spanning approximately 31 years. His postings include: Assistant Area Development Officer, Vietnam 1969-72; Reports Officer and then Operations Research Analyst, Bureau of Personnel, 1972-74; Special Assistant, Bureau of Administration, 1974-77; Administrative Officer, U.S. Embassy Damascus, Syria, 1977-80; Executive Director, Bureau of Politico-Military Affairs, 1980-82; and International Relations Officer, Multinational Force and Observer
