Press Statement by James P. Rubin, Spokesman
November 5, 1998
Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is pleased to announce the visit to the United States of Dutch Foreign Minister Jozias van Aartsen, November 22 through November 24, 1998. The Secretary welcomes Foreign Minister van Aartsen's first visit to Washington as Foreign Minister. The purpose of the visit is to reaffirm our warm, long-standing relationship with the Netherlands, one of our closest European allies, and to review a number of important foreign policy issues of mutual interest and concern.
Foreign Minister van Aartsen will meet with Secretary Albright and others in Washington. We look forward to exchanging views regarding U.S.-EU relations, NATO and OSCE efforts in Kosovo, preparations for the 1999 NATO Summit in Washington, next steps on securing peace in the Middle East, and opportunities for closer cooperation at the United Nations.
