New Zealand Acquisition of F-16’s
UN Sanctions CommitmentsThe United States welcomes the recent decision by the Government of New Zealand to acquire 28 U.S.-built F-16 aircraft. This decision will do much to help us resolve the status of these aircraft, once destined for Pakistan, while enabling New Zealand to significantly upgrade the capability of its air force.
We also would like to commend separate, recent decisions by New Zealand to renew its commitment of personnel to UNSCOM and to provide a naval boarding party for use by the UN Multinational Interception Force in the Persian Gulf. New Zealand, a friend of the United States, has again demonstrated its steadfast commitment to UN sanctions regime enforcement. We are grateful for New Zealand’s contributions which have done much to advance important interests of the world community.
