Press Statement by James B. Foley, Deputy Spokesman
January 28, 1999
U.S. Committed to Full Implementation of Dayton Accords The United States remains absolutely committed to the full implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Steady progress in implementing Dayton is successfully bringing Bosnia toward the goal enshrined in the Agreement: one country—Bosnia and Herzegovina—comprised of two, and only two, multi-ethnic entities, the Federation and the Republika Srpska.
The entire international community has made clear that it is fully committed to implementing the Dayton Agreement exactly as it was negotiated and signed. The December ministerial meeting in Madrid of the Peace Implementation Council reaffirmed that commitment, and established our common priorities for 1999 for Dayton implementation. There is, and will be, no alternative.
