Press Statement by James P. Rubin, Spokesman
March 10, 1999
Address by Secretary Albright and Senator Dole to all Kosovo Residents Today, Secretary Albright and Senator Robert Dole addressed all Kosovo residents in a live broadcast transmitted on TV Tirana. They emphasized that the Rambouillet Agreement will provide self-government and security for the people of Kosovo and urged the people of Kosovo to call upon their leaders to sign the Agreement immediately.
The Secretary stressed that signature by the Kosovo Albanians will allow the international community to increase pressure on Slobodan Milosevic.
Senator Dole called for the leaders of the Kosovo Albanians to take a stand for the Agreement, which they indicate that they have accepted. He said that what is at issue is the safety of their mothers, friends, and families and this should not be delayed by a power struggle within the KLA.
The broadcast reaches throughout Kosovo and is watched by approximately two-thirds of households there. The interviews were part of the "Agreement for Peace" program, a USIA-produced series which has aired nightly over Albanian television for the past two weeks. The program allows Albanian and Kosovar-Albanian journalists to interview senior United States Government officials live on prime time television.
