Press Statement by James P. Rubin, Spokesman
March 12, 1999

Arrest of Nguyen Thanh Giang

We are deeply concerned over the reported arrest of Nguyen Thanh Giang on March 4 in Hanoi. A retired geophysicist, Giang is a peaceful advocate for human rights and political pluralism in Vietnam. His arrest is a troubling event, and we call on the Vietnamese authorities to release him immediately and unconditionally.
