President Clinton Determines Croatia Eligible
To Receive U.S. Defense Articles And ServicesPresident Clinton notified Secretary Albright April 8 he had determined that the Republic of Croatia was eligible to be furnished defense articles and services under the Foreign Assistance Act and Arms Control Act. Croatia must get approval license-by-license to purchase any U.S. military equipment.
The Department of State recommended such action based on the extensive defense reforms undertaken by the Government of Croatia in recent months to increase transparency of the military budget and enhance civilian control of the military. The U.S. looks forward to continued reforms in this area.
