Notice to the Press

U.S.-Japan Subcabinet Meeting (Second Notice)

U.S. and Japanese delegations will participate in a bilateral subcabinet-level meeting to prepare for the May 3 Clinton-Obuchi summit. The meeting will take place at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center, 4000 Arlington Boulevard, Arlington, Virginia, beginning at 2:00 p.m. on April 21.

The U.S. delegation will be led by National Economic Council Deputy Director Lael Brainard, and will include representatives from the State, Commerce, Treasury, and Justice Departments, as well as USTR and the Council of Economic Advisors. Under Secretary Eizenstat will lead the State Department contingent.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Koichi Haraguchi will head a Japanese delegation that includes representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, the Economic Planning Agency, and the Japan Fair Trade Commission.

There will be a camera spray (pool coverage) at the beginning of the meeting. Those interested in participating should contact Kenneth Bailes at 647-2538.
