Briefing on NATO Science Programme

The NATO Science Committee will present a briefing about the future of the NATO Civil Science Programme on Saturday, April 24, at approximately 11:00 AM in the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center amphitheater (14th Street, N.W. main entrance), Washington, D.C. The briefing will be introduced by Dr. Neal F. Lane, Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Mr. Yves Sillard, Assistant Secretary General for Scientific and Environmental Affairs, NATO International Staff, will present an overview of the NATO Science Programme.

Dr. William F. Brinkman, U.S. Member of the NATO Science Committee, will speak about cooperative science and technology in the NATO Science Programme. Professor David G. MacNeil will address the NATO Computer Networking Initiative, and Dr. Keith L. Garnder will speak about enhancing industry and the environment in the Partner countries. The 45-minute briefing will conclude with a question and answer roundtable session.

For 50 years, the NATO Science Committee has brought together leading scientists from alliance nations. The measure of its success can be found in its Nobel laureates, its impressive record of scientific achievement and the mutual understanding and goodwill among Western scientists. Now a new era has begun for NATO Science, an era in which new bridges are being built among scientists from alliance members and scientists from Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC) Partner nations.

In addition to the Saturday morning briefing, the NATO Science Committee will host an exhibit booth in the foyer of the Ronald Reagan Building throughout the NATO Summit.

Press credentials to attend the NATO Science Programme briefing can be obtained in Suite 898 of the National Press Club, 14th and F Streets, NW. A current press credential and photo identification will be required. For further information call 202-724-1640.
