Notice to the Press
April 29, 1999

Council of The Americas Washington Conference
May 3 and 4, 1999

Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright will deliver closing remarks at the Council of the Americas' 29th Annual Washington Conference, Tuesday, May 4 11:30 a.m. in the Department's Loy Henderson Conference Room.

The theme of the two-day meeting is "Hemispheric Integration in a Volatile World Economy." Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Peter Romero also will address the conference, as well as other U.S. government and foreign officials.

The event is open to press coverage. Doors will open for cameras and still photographers at 7:00 a.m. Writers set up time is 8:00 a.m. Press should have a U.S. Government press ID (U.S. Department of State, White House, Capitol Hill, or USIA's Foreign Press Center) or letter on official letterhead from their news organization verifying their employment as a journalists, accompanied by a photo ID (driver's license or passport).
