Press Statement by James P. Rubin, Spokesman
May 14, 1999
Ecuador-Peru Border The Department congratulates Ecuador and Peru on having completed the demarcation of their common border on May 13. By dedicating the last border marker, Presidents Fujimori and Mahuad have brought the comprehensive peace agreement between their two countries, signed in Brasilia last October 26, fully into force. The agreement opens great possibilities for development, trade, and cooperation between these two nations.
The successful implementation of this peace agreement, which was reached with the assistance of the United States, Argentina, Brazil, and Chile, manifests the growing spirit of mature cooperation and friendship among nations in our hemisphere.
