U.S.-Baltic Partnership Commission Meeting

The second annual meeting of the U.S.-Baltic Partnership Commission, established under the Charter of Partnership among the Republics of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and the United States of America in January 1988, had been scheduled to meet in Washington, D.C. on May 19, 1999, with Deputy Secretary Strobe Talbott as host. It has now been postponed because the Deputy Secretary's travel connected with resolving the Kosovo crisis.

Deputy Secretary Talbott met with the Ambassadors of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia on May 17. He reaffirmed the commitment of the United States to the principles of the Charter of Partnership, including the full integration of Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania into all European and transatlantic institutions. The Deputy Secretary said that he looked forward to participating in a rescheduled Partnership Commission meeting at the earliest opportunity. He regretted any inconvenience this may have caused to his counterparts on the Commission.
