U.S. Baltic Partnership Commission Meeting
Signing Ceremony and Press Conference

Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott will sign a Joint Communique and hold a joint press conference with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Algirdas Saudargas, Latvian Foreign Minister Valdis Birkays, and Estonian Foreign Minister Toomas Hedrik Ilves at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, July 16, in the Treaty Room of the State Department.

The three Foreign Ministers are joining Deputy Secretary Strobe Talbott for the second annual meeting of the U.S.-Baltic Partnership Commission, established under the Charter of Partnership among the Republics of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania and the United States of America on January 16, 1998. Deputy Secretary Talbott is hosting the meeting on behalf of the United States Government. The first meeting of the Partnership Commission was held in Riga, Latvia, July 8, 1998.

The Partnership Commission will be addressing issues of mutual concern, assessing the status of the Charter of Partnership, and discussing specific ways the four countries can jointly advance the goals of greater regional integration, stability, and prosperity.

Pick up time for press who wish to cover the signing ceremony and press conference will be 11:45 a.m. for camera and still photographers, and 12 noon for writers from the C Street Lobby of the Department of State.
