Mission of Ambassador Powell to Cote D'Ivoire

Ambassador Nancy Powell, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, is traveling to Cote d'Ivoire to underscore the United States' grave concern about developments in that country and the threat they pose to regional peace and stability.

On Friday, October 6, she will meet with General Guei to convey a message from the highest levels of the government of the United States, as well as meet with leaders of the opposition parties, and representatives of Ivorian civil society. Ambassador Powell will reiterate the call of the United States for inclusive, free, fair, and transparent elections. She will also urge all groups to shun violence and to work together for the broader interest of all Ivorians.
