
The Office of Development Finance (IFD/ODF) has the lead role in the U.S. Department of State for matters concerning international development assistance, the multilateral development banks, and offficial trade financing. The office:

Works with the U.S. Department of the Treasury to ensure multilateral development bank (MDB) assistance to support U.S. foreign policy goals.
- Analyzes MDB projects to examine whether they foster sustainable development and are consistent with market-oriented reforms, the promotion of core labor standards, the protection of human rights and the environment, and efforts to foster transparency.
- Promotes strategies to alleviate poverty and reach the international targets for poverty reduction known as the Strategy 21 Goals.
- Participates in the U.S. Export-Import Bank's efforts to create jobs through exports by providing credit and loan guarantees that help U.S. exporters participate in development projects.
- Supports the activities of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency to enable American companies to participate in infrastructure and industrial projects in developing countries.
