China's Most-Favored-Nation (MFN) Status, 1997

China's most-favored-nation (normal trade relations) status has been renewed for the coming year. The Clinton Administration announced May 19, 1997 that it would renew most-favored-nation (MFN) status for China for the coming year, and President Clinton officially notified the Congress on May 29 that he had renewed MFN. The House of Representatives voted on June 24 to back the President's decision.
