Statement on Attack on UNHCR Bus in Kosovo
February 2, 2000, En Route to Washington, D.C. from Croatia
As released by the Office of the Spokesman
U.S. Department of State
Blue Line

SECRETARY ALBRIGHT: We deplore the cowardly attack on defenseless Serb passengers on the UNHCR bus. This reprehensible act only serves to prolong the cycle of violence that has plagued Kosovo.

We call on the leadership of the Kosovo Albanian community to join us in condemning this crime. Last November, in Kosovo, President Clinton said that "the time for fighting has passed."

We agree with those who have stressed that old hatreds and the spirit of vengeance must be set aside for a new, peaceful Kosovo to emerge.
