[Remarks as prepared for delivery; delivered in Czech]
SECRETARY ALBRIGHT: President Havel, on behalf of the U.S. Government, I am pleased to return these precious artifacts to your keeping.
As you know, the U.S. Embassy in Prague guarded them at the request of a young Czech-American who sought to protect them during the last days of communist rule; and who viewed the United States correctly as a friend of the Czech people.
It has been a privilege for my country to have kept them safe; and it is an honor for me now to return them to the citizens of your country on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of President Masaryk's birth.
