Focus of Trip
Secretary Albright will travel to Colombia, Panama, and Mexico from January 14 to January 16, 2000. The trip is part of the Administration's sustained engagement with the Western Hemisphere, and will highlight relations with these three important regional partners.
In Cartagena, Colombia, Secretary Albright will meet with President Andres Pastrana and senior members of the Colombian Government to discuss that country's courageous efforts against drug traffickers as well as the Clinton Administration's contribution to that struggle as outlined in a major new assistance package announced January 11.
In Panama, Secretary Albright will meet with President Moscoso and visit the Panama Canal to view firsthand the results of the smooth turnover of the Canal to Panamanian control completed on December 31.
She will then travel to Oaxaca, Mexico, for meetings with Foreign Secretary Rosario Green and senior members of the Mexican Government, continuing their ongoing discussions and review of this crucial bilateral relationship.
