Focus of Trip
Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright will travel to Florence, Italy, to attend the spring meeting of NATO foreign ministers May 24-25. Departing May 23, the Secretary will meet with the foreign ministers May 24, and later participate in a meeting of the NATO-Russia Permanent Joint Council. On May 25, the Secretary will meet with Allies and Partners in the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC), and attend a meeting of Allies with Ukraine in the NATO-Ukraine Commission.
These meetings will review the entire NATO agenda, including implementation of the Washington Summit decisions, NATO's role in Bosnia and Kosovo, and other European security issues. On May 25, Croatia will sign the Partnership for Peace Framework Document and attend the EAPC Ministerial.
Secretary Albright will travel to London, United Kingdom on May 26. In London, Secretary Albright will be hosted by the London School of Economics and Political Science, and will deliver an address on U.S.-Russia relations as President Clinton prepares for his June meeting with the new Russian leadership. The address will take place at 9:45 a.m. in the Old Theatre, LSE, Houghton Street, London WC2. Secretary Albright will return to Washington, D.C. from London on May 26.
