     Focus of Trip:

Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright will visit Hungary December 12-13, 2000. In Budapest, she will meet with Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi. Secretary Albright plans to discuss regional concerns, the upcoming NATO foreign ministers meeting, and bilateral issues with Hungarian officials.
      This stop will highlight the close ties and productive relationship the United States has enjoyed with Hungary in the past ten years and especially since Hungary joined NATO in 1999. Hungary has made important contributions to the Alliance in the past one-and-one-half years. The economic relationship between our nations has strengthened with considerable U.S. investment in Hungary and increased bilateral trade.
      On December 14-16, 2000 Secretary Albright will attend the North Atlantic Council Ministerial, NATO Headquarters, Brussels, Belgium.
