|Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright
Remarks at Ramstein Air Force Base
Ramstein, Germany, August 12, 1998
As released by the Office of the Spokesman
U.S. Department of State
SECRETARY ALBRIGHT: I have just been visiting the nine patients who are here. They are getting better. I expressed President Clinton's best wishes and support for them and told them that we were going to do everything we could, not only for them but all those who have been injured: Kenyans, Tanzanians and Americans.
This is a very hard trip. I am bringing home very brave Americans. They deserve the support of the American people and all the members of the foreign service and the foreign service nationals who represent the United States so ably throughout the world.
I would like to thank the hospital staff here who have done an amazing job for these people and are raising their spirits and are doing everything they can to help them. As President Clinton and I have said a number of times, we will not rest until we find some solution for this terrorist problem. As I have said our memories are long and our reach is far and we will not be intimidated or pushed off the world's stage by people who do not like what we stand for, which is freedom and democracy, and the fight against poverty and disease and terrorism.
Thank you all very much.
